General & Enrolment Questions

1. What age can children start ballet at BDS Ballet?

We welcome young dancers starting from age 4+. Our pre-school and early years classes focus on developing coordination, musicality, spatial awareness, and creative expression in a fun and encouraging environment.

2. Where are BDS Ballet children’s classes held in Enfield?

Our classes take place at Albany Leisure Centre, located at 505 Hertford Rd, Enfield EN3 5XH. We proudly serve children and families across Enfield, North London, and the surrounding areas.

3. Do I need to book my child's place in advance, or can we drop in?

Advance booking is required. We keep class sizes small to ensure every child receives individual guidance and attention from our teachers. Spaces fill on a termly basis, so we recommend reserving early.

4. Can my child try a class before committing for the full term?

Yes! We encourage new students to attend an initial trial or starter class to ensure they feel comfortable and excited in our studio environment before committing to the full term. If you register for a trial on the first day of term, your trial fee will be reimbursed if you book for the full term on the same day.

Syllabus, Exams & Stage Opportunities

5. What dance syllabus does BDS Ballet follow?

BDS Ballet follows the IDTA (International Dance Teachers’ Association) syllabus. This structured, globally recognised curriculum offers step-by-step technical progression from early childhood awards up to pre-vocational  graded levels.

6. Will my child have the opportunity to take exams?

Yes! BDS Ballet holds annual IDTA exam sessions for all students. For younger dancers, we offer IDTA Rosette, Preliminary and Juvenile awards as a gentle, positive introduction to structured assessment.

7. Do the children get to perform in a show or recital?

Yes! We stage an end-of-year recital where students perform on stage in front of family and friends. It is a wonderful way for young dancers to celebrate their achievements and build stage confidence.

8. Are exams compulsory for all children?

Yes. As part of our commitment to maintaining high standards of technique, progression, and goal-setting, all children enrolled at BDS Ballet are expected to take their IDTA exams when ready. Preparing for exams helps students build focus, discipline, and a sense of pride as they advance through the grades together.

Uniform & Class Preparation

9. What should my child wear to their first ballet class?

For trial or initial classes, your child does not need a formal uniform—comfortable, flexible clothing (such as leggings and a t-shirt) with soft socks or ballet shoes is perfect.

10. What is the official dress code/uniform for enrolled students?

Once enrolled for the term, students are required to follow our official BDS Ballet IDTA uniform guidelines. Detailed uniform lists—including regulation leotards, tights/socks, and fitted ballet shoes—are provided upon enrolment.

11. Can parents stay and watch inside the dance studio?

To help children stay focused, interact with peers, and build independent confidence with the teacher, parents generally wait outside the studio room during class. 

Fees & Booking Questions

12. How do term fees and payments work?

Fees are paid on a termly basis prior to the start of each term. Payments can be made easily online using major credit/debit cards or PayPal.
